We went behind the scenes on the new movie ‘Chick Fight’ with a little help from soundtrack composer, Benson Taylor. Starring Malin Akerman, Bella Thorne, Alec Baldwin, and the scene-stealing Dulcé Sloan, the comedy-drama is directed by Paul Leyden and features a similar setting to cult classic ‘Fight Club’ with more female-empowerment and raunchy humor and far less nihilism.
‘Chick Fight’ features a soundtrack from Benson Taylor, producer of A Remarkable Idea; our production music label home to top line commercial Indie artists that blurs the line between traditional music publishing and production music libraries. Alongside Benson’s own work, the movie features tracks by indie poppers Menace Beach and from Indie Rock legend Kele Okereke, best known as front man of platinum selling band Bloc Party, all available for music licensing from FirstCom Music. We caught up with Benson to find out more about the challenges of producing film score in the middle of a pandemic and the associated lockdowns.
“Writing a soundtrack mid-pandemic was definitely an interesting exercise! As composers I think we’re well trained on spending time in lonely studios, but the end product results in physical collaborations with musicians – so there’s a tradeoff. This time there was no tradeoff due to the lockdown so it was definitely a hugely unique experience. Luckily with technology we manage to speak across continents, maybe more than usual? We created something special, the results are FUN in this film, potentially perfect for lockdown enjoyment…” – Composer & Producer, Benson Taylor
